MILWAUKEE – (July 8, 2011) – The new Echelon™ 16 SEER air conditioner from the Coleman® brand of HVAC products made by Johnson Controls, the global leader in delivering solutions that increase energy efficiency in buildings, equips contractors with a premium unit that meets the efficiency requirements for a 2011 tax credit.
The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010 extends the tax credits of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act into 2011, but at lower levels, offering tax credits totaling 10 percent of the cost of the improvement, up to $500. Installed alone, the Echelon 16 SEER unit qualifies for a $300 credit. When installed with an eligible coil/furnace/air handler combination, the entire system may qualify for the maximum $500 credit.
The Echelon 16 SEER unit also adds a 2.5- and a 3.5-ton unit to the premium product offering – part of a 2- to 5-ton capacity range that addresses a variety of applications. In addition, the new air conditioner features a control board that is compatible with the Echelon Residential Communicating Control. This revolutionary new control communicates with all key components in a home comfort system, providing total system integration that ensures maximum system efficiency and homeowner comfort while equipping contractors with a reliable, distinctive tool to increase profits and build their business.
The unit also introduces MicroChannel coil technology to the Echelon product line and includes the next generation of tube and alloy advancements. These generation changes will provide improved performance in heat transfer and durability. First introduced in 2006, MicroChannel technology has proven itself with nearly a million units operating in the field.
A fan design that utilizes technology adapted from aeronautic and defense engineering provides whisper-quiet operation by allowing air to flow smoothly and efficiently across the fan tips. The WhisperDrive™ System combines this unique fan design with a composite base pan, isolated compressor compartment, electronically controlled fan motor and single-stage compressor to reduce overall sound while raising comfort levels and improving efficiency.
Homeowners will also appreciate the fact that the Echelon 16 SEER air conditioner protects the environment by using environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant while protecting integral components, such as coils and compressors, with a PVC-coated steel coil guard and a polymer mesh, ensuring years of worry-free operation. In addition, the unit’s powder-paint topcoat applied over a baked-on primer provides 33 percent greater durability than conventional powder-coated finishes and protects against harmful ultraviolet rays and rust creep.
Contractors, too, benefit from the unit’s sturdy design, which includes a full-end, full-service access panel and handle. This panel provides easy access to internal components, while a slide-down control compartment and angled service valves further reduce installation time and costs.
